Gerald Drißner(drissner.me), born in 1977, grew up in the Austrian mountain village of Wald am Arlberg. He holds a degree in economics and Arabic studies, works as a journalist and currently lives in Berlin.

He publishes books on the Arabic language through his self-publishing company pochemuchka books.

Gerald started learning Arabic in Alexandria in the summer of 2006. He lived in Arab countries for more than ten years, where he studied Arabic intensively.

In 2015, he founded the blog Arabic for Nerds – a platform for anyone who likes Arabic. He currently lives in Berlin.

pochemuchka?

pochemuchka (почемучка) is a Russian word. This refers to a person who asks too many questions. It is pronounced “počemúčka”.

The word goes back to a Russian children’s book (Что я ви́дел; Što ja vídel, What I saw), which tells the story of a boy who is nicknamed Alyosha Pochemuchka – because he was never satisfied with the answers he received.
